This would be problematic because non-standard number formats may cause problems with some systems.
If you add it as a prefix then some systems will attempt to interpret the number as an incoming international call. It may cause issues with some phone company caller id lookups and could cause some companies to block the incoming calls.
Adding the number as a postfix also causes problems. For example in the US the numbers are no longer valid NANP numbers. This will prevent them from being displayed on many phones. Although I suspect that this would be preferred over using a prefix because at least the calling party is easily identified.
Finally, changing the number would result in no name being displayed on your phone unless the number was stored in your phonebook in each way it could be delivered.
While it might work in certain cases I imagine we would see a significant rise in complaints from people who used it without realization of the impacts.
Unfortunately what you really need, in my opinion, is a dual line cell phone. In most cases what you are attempting to do is separate business and personal calls. By having a dual line cell phone you can accomplish that and have two cell numbers simultaneously active on the same device. This allows you to keep billing, call records and voicemail accounts separate. While the technology exists and is operational on some networks (in Israel?) I am not aware of any US carriers that currently offer this feature.
