This article is a bit misleading. It opens with
"Imagine being chief executive of a high-technology company and having to choose between alienating a relatively small group of shareholders who also happen to be the firm's customers or a much larger group of shareholders who aren't."
The implication here is that VG has to choose between most of its customers and most of its shareholders. The actual numbers appear later in the article, but this initial assertion is allowed to stand. In fact, the tradeoff for VG is between a very few of its customers and most of its shareholders. Therefore the choice for VG is not difficult and this article is just one more attempt to stir the pot.
Percentages on this forum notwithstanding, most DSP participants understood the risk and are not whinging about the results. Some small number of participants are pissed and maybe will drop the service. But VG will survive this and its ultimate success or failure will not be strongly related to how the IPO controversy plays out.
The Post can try to make a story out of this, but as the days wear on, the people who care about it are being reduced to some fraction of the 10k people who were allocated shares. Oh, yeah, and the class-action law firms. This is just not a lot of people with not a lot of weight.
