Then that certainly does make it not make sense for you, nutty, but your question was "who ia honestly going to do that", and the truth is, there are plenty of people for whom doing that does, in fact, make sense.
In any case, I agree that it would be a lot better if they found a better way to do the whole porting deal. For my HOME service (I have Vonage for home and business now), we didn't even bother porting, just took a new phone number and moved on, but I did have to port my business number.
