The common problem of running Vonage in an internet cafe is when you go to share the Wifi internet connection on your ethernet port using Internet Connection Sharing for Windows (ICS) and there is an IP addressing conflict between the wireless router and the ICS.

For example - Wifi Router Gateway 192.168.0.1
Your Wifi adapter 192.168.0.100
Your eth port with ICS 192.168.0.1

*** eth port conflicts with Wifi Router - ICS fails!

ICS does not let you choose which IP address range to use making it useless whenever the Wifi router is set to its default ip address range. I have had little success with Microsoft Network Bridge. So I looked for an alternate solution.

My Motorola VT1005V supports PPPoE so I went about looking for a PPPoE server. Low and behold I found one: http://raspppoe.com/

This is an excellent product and is free for personal use. There is extensive HOW-TOs on the website and a trouble shooting section. I even received a reply to an email from the creator within less than 5 hours.

This is how it works (Windows XP):
1. Install PPPoE for Eth port (Add Protocol in Adapter's Network Settings)
- once installed correctly the adapter will obtain a second IP address from the WiFi router and will act as the gateway for the Vonage ATA

2. Setup Incoming connection to accept 'calls' on Eth Port using Windows XP 'Setup a home or small office network' Wizard in Network Connections
- make sure you have TCP/IP enabled for this connection and have a user account (username/password) enabled for this connection

3. Change the 'Basic' Settings in your VT1005V to 'Enable PPPoE'
- Leave the service name blank and use the username and password connected to 'Incoming Connection' you setup on your laptop.

4. Connect your ATA to your eth port on your Laptop, powercycle it and make some calls!
