The backdoor to the VT-1005 is static at: no matter what you have the network/LAN IP address set at or how or where you have the unit connected.

The problem that you encountered was what a lot of users did, and that was a failed Firmware Update. When notification was sent to the unit, it went to get the update and couldn't for a "short" period of time, so they say. What they didn't say is that it put some of the units into limbo/locked up at 4 blinks. And at 4 blinks you are locked out of the UI. I found that if you disconnect the MTA from power and the Internet , wait a second, plug the power back in and not the Internet , then set your CPUs IP address to 192.168.102.x (not 1. I did 5), connect the CPU directly to the PC port (and you may have to reboot the CPU) it can only get to the 1 blink stage and you can get right in using You might have to preface it with http://.

Once in just navigate to the Advanced page (disregard all the other pages and settings) and then the "Reboot" button at the bottom of the page, press it, wait a minute, plug back in the Internet connection, and the unit will now (hopefully) act as it should and download the update (fast flashing light for 2-5 minutes), power cycle itself and then do the 1-2-3-4 blinking thing and then (at least I was) up and running. This process not even their Level 2 Techs knew about. And the sad thing is that it is just common sense and only took 10-15 minutes. I was down for several days.

If Vonage hadn't wasted my time by telling me that they were down and the update couldn't be accessed when it was the exact opposite and eventually pissing me off by making me wait for days (I'd still be waiting if I had listened to them and waited for the MTA to recover on its own), I would not have discovered this and been back up in the 15 minutes that it took me. That is if the update was available. Even if it wasn't my MTA would have been ready and waiting, not locked up. If Vonages' CEO spent more money on Tech Support and less on their ridiculous commercials, they'd have known better how to deal with these types of issues. Probably. So say the financial experts.

When calling Tech Support and you get India, immediately ask for US Tech Support in a very demanding tone. They will then transfer you. All the Level 2's (US Tech Support) I have spoken with have said that India knows nothing and not to waste your time with them. It'll only make you crazier.
