The Vonage speed test has always been pretty accurate for me. My ISP offers several different speed tests, and being on their internal network should give the best estimation of maximum throughput. Running that test shows my connection at 26mbps down and 4.9mbps up. Vonage speed test says 21mbps down and 3.7up. The audit my PC test varies significantly what the other test results have shown by giving me 13.8mbps down and 1.6mbps up.
I ran each test several times to assure that the test results I got weren't just a one-off fluke result. Furthermore, I just tested download a very large file from a newsgroup and I was getting a sustained transfer of 22mbps over the course of the 5min download. I ran the audit my pc test again immediately following this and got the same results I did last time(13mbps down). This shows that for me at least the audit my pc test is wildly inaccurate and the Vonage test comes pretty close to getting it right.
So, what does this mean? Well, it just means that from whatever ISP you are using you have a better route to the auditmypc site, and form my ISP I have a better route to the Vonage test. It could also be your physical location, I am right near where Vonage is(NJ/NY area) and presumably where the server housing this speed test is. Auditmypc seems to be hosted by Verio out of Florida, so it would be significantly further away. Still, even that distance shouldn't drop the speed by 10mbps, so maybe my ISP just has a bad route or isn't peering with whoever provides the internet connectivity for Verio and maybe yours is. In closing, if Vonage is working fine for you there is no need to worry about the speed test results.
