Purchasing a VT2442 on an existing account that is out of warranty will probably cost you the full $79.99 but it can definitely be done. I don't think any of their agents can do this except the people in their NJ office so make sure that is who you are talking to. If they keep refusing, tell them you want to speak to a supervisor. From what I have seen on this and other sites, people report getting Linksys RT31P2's or RTP300's as warranty replacement devices for their defective VT2442/2142's so they may be running low on their Motorola stock, hence their reluctance to part with a device they have none or very few of.
