That is correct. My family back in Fredericton can call me for free since it is a local call for them. Plus, if you have family in friends in other larger cities there are what is called V-access numbers, they call this number and then enter your Vonage number and the call is free.
There is a new feature, but is still in the alpha stage. Vonage Canada doesn't have a clue about it, but it is called Vonage Alpha. You send family and friends an email with an html tag in it, then enter their phone number,their phone rings and then your phone rings you answer and the phone calls are connected. Once again this is a free call to them. It is counted against your minutes, but if you have the unlimited plan no big deal. Here is the link for that so you can have a look at it, also you can send out faxes without a fax machine.
I noticed on this page that it has Vonage talk, I haven't had much success with this in the past, unless they fixed it.

Just make sure you have a good internet provider, and if you have a DSL connection (Sympatico for example) you either have to keep your bell line or ask for a dry DSL line.
