Thanks for the explanation, Brian! :-) I can see why you had suspicions about that specific problem. Makes perfect sense.
I'll keep track of the calls that do and don't go through on your advice before calling Vonage. I wish I'd noted when the problem started and seemed to get worse now, but oh well! I've been more aware lately, and it mostly seems to be a problem with 10-digit dialing, as I've had trouble calling my husband if I dial the area code first or just hit the down arrow on the phone to call the last number that called me. But then even that's not an absolute, since I can call out within and outside of my area code sometimes. The only thing I never have trouble with is dialing 7 digits (within my AC, of course).
Anyway, thanks again for the great advice, and I'll let you all know how it goes, since I suspect I'm not the ONLY one who's ever had this problem.
