Note you may see differences between the last times you visited here. We have collected fragmented information and updated the post. So I thank you very much for your past contribution!!!

Voip System – Technologies, hardware, and a solution needed.

===========================================================================

Hi, how are you? I’m new here, and this is a pleasure to participate in the forum and contribute somehow to the knowledge spreading. I hope you can be patient and I would be very happy if you could give some of your time and contribute anyway you can to this topic so I become less ignorant than I were yesterday =D

Any information is actually appreciated; even if it is short or incomplete, it is valuable to me. It applies not only to this topic but any other you may find in the globe. I have a modest knowledge about computers, including software programming, and, therefore the necessities presented here will be implemented by me and my team, not by third parties. Of course, you are part of it, and I’ll forget about it! It’s important to me.

I’ve done my ‘homework’ and got the basics with Voip (Voice over Internet Protocol) and now, please let me show you the situation I’m in...

===========================================================================

The History

I run a small company here in Brazil, and in this company we have a client’s support team. This team is formed by 1 main attendant (telephonist or telephone operator), and other 4 nice supporter ‘boys’. They are constantly in touch with 3 other collaborators that reside in 3 different cities in my state . We subscribe to an ADSL Broadband Internet Service Provider and we can count on 10 Megabits/s (1 Megabyte/s) download bandwidth and 1 Megabits/s (100 Kbytes/s) to upload. It can be upgraded if needed.

We have 5 wireless interconnected computers in our private network and these 5 computers have internet access. There is the possibility to run these computers on wired method opposite to wireless to enhance the bandwidths.

The telephone expenses are somehow high, so we decided to renew the hardware and implement a Voip system here. Please, consider we still do not have any of the needed equipment to do so, and then, we are going to buy anything needed. We are going to contract 2 or 3 Voip providers (for availability) that practices low rates to calls inside Brazil, as we don’t know any FREE provider that support our country for landline calls or mobile calls ( more important to us ).

We have only 1 Voip provider in mind: VoipWise. So we appreciate any suggestion about other two.

1. What do you think about it, wise choice? Anny better idea or companies that have cheap rates for calls inside Brazil?)

We would like to have the 3 providers configured and running simultaneously in the system to grant business continuity and use each one accordingly to its practiced rates, for example, to mobile phone calls we may use the (X) provider, landline calls the (Y) one, and we let (Z) available in case of crashes, unavailability, and other disasters that may occur.

Our call flow doesn’t need more the 3 simultaneously calls running. The support schema, when a client calls us, frequently the attendant or telephone operator should transfer that call to one of those collaborators , accordingly to the need in question, or only transfer it internally to one of our support ‘guys’. When the call needs to be transferred to a collaborator it must be done through one of the Voip lines available.

2. How can we enable, that when an incoming call from a standard PSTN phone is in progress, we have our attendant to answer it and transfer it internally or externally to one of our collaborators on theirs city through an available Voip line? Sometimes it will be needed that the calls are directly forwarded, so will it be possible? How would this schema works in practice step-by-step?

We were wondering about Asterisk solution or its variables, but our modest knowledge makes it impossible in the while, so please, don’t consider it. And as an engaged team, we would be extremely happy if our company could receive non standard PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) calls like IP Phones, Soft Phones, Google Talk, MSN and other for example, and have those calls all ‘magically’ centralized to the attendant in a ‘simple’ way.

3. Can you suggest something? I have no idea on how accomplish it on a relatively ‘simple’ way as well how to implement something that enables our clients to make free incoming calls to us without having to install an 800 number. It would be extremely appreciated!

Do not despair. At least I know something =D
I am going to spend some money on hardware and time on reading to set up it all. So, please...

4. Which hardware would involve the solution, like ADSL modem 2nd, Wireless router 2nd, Switch 2nd, Standard telephony devices 2nd, IP Phone devices 2nd, Soft Phone 2nd, and other devices, including this, this, and this I need to accomplish the task? Any suggestion is really valued!

Thank you for your knowledge, for your patience. Keep studying, helping your ‘next door neighbor’... The world needs people like you!

Sorry for the long, long post. Sorry for the ‘infinite’ wish list. And sorry if it was already posted. I sincerely hope this topic can help other people around here, and if I can contribute with something, please, let me know. I will be very happy helping you too.

Thank you again!

Best regards,
Henrique
