Sure, I understand what you are saying. And DSL has always has worked better for me, with Vonage, than cable. Still, the main reason that I have two internet service providers is to give me some redundancy, so in order for that to make sense, Vonage has to be able to work with the cable modem.
If the voice quality suffers a little bit when on cable, I can handle that, so long as it works reasonably well. I ran Vonage on cable for a few years before I got the DSL line, so I am well familiar with the level of quality that should be possible, and it's "okay". DSL is better, but cable was still acceptable...at least until the modem change.
I originally bought DSL as a backup to cable. I figured it would be too slow to replace cable, but I just wanted something to use when the cable went down...which actually happened fairly often.
After I survived a few cable outages on DSL, I gained a new respect for DSL...so much so that I now use it as my primary Internet service. Even so, the DSL service does fail, even if rarely, so I still need Vonage to work on cable...even if I never do go back to cable as my primary ISP.
I have to tell you though, the speed for downloads is compelling...it's easily 50 percent faster than my 5 Mbps DSL, even ignoring the speed burst (or whatever they call it). Too bad Vonage can't find a way to work perfectly in that environment, since so many people have cable service.
