Sorry to resurrect this post, but this has happed to me, and I have no good news for you.
When i signed up I got a virtual number that I could use for incoming calls while in the number transfer process. I called the number to test it, and it was the PSTN number for some guy in town. I called Vonage and and told the 'tech' what was going on. She refused to believe it because "Vonage can't give out numbers that are in use". She said it didn't matter anyways since the number transfer was finished. So i ended the call with her. I used my cell to call my apparently transferred number, and it rang the PSTN phone. I call back to Vonage support, and get another person. I tell her what happened, and she sends me to the next level of support. Then I wait over half an hour on hold. The person that answers is very apologetic and says he knows exactly what is wrong and he will fix it right away. So I wait, and wait while he tries to figure out why the computer wont let him change my virtual number. I get put on hold again for about 10 mins, and when he takes me off of hold he says he's going to have a manager talk to me to fix the problem.the manager mumbles into the phone as i can hear him typing for a long time. When he finishes he says the problem is fixed. He gives me a new virtual number, and I ask if he has checked to see if it is in use. He tells me that it's not, and put me back on the phone with the tech. The tech does some stuff with the bill to make shure that I don't get billed for having two virtual numbers for a day. When finished I ask to talk to a manager because It shouldn't take 1:20 to get the problem fixed, he says that the manager was only able to talk to me because he was between meetings. He says that he will add a note to my account telling the manager to call me as soon as he is out of the meeting. When I get off the phone I try calling the new number with my cell. I think you can see what is coming: It was in use! I didn't want to go through that bull-shit 'support' system again, so I figure I would wait until the manager calls tomorrow. He never called.
About two weeks later the number got transferred an things have been running smoothly since, but I'm still pissed-off.
