Sorry for the odd ">>>" quote tags. I'm too lazy to build up real "Quotes". ;)

>>>Right now I have the RTP31P2 setup using a static ip address.. ...thats probably why I don't see it in the device list. and i have ping and remote management turned off. I should probably turn them back on? that way i can ping the device and manage it remotely?

You can probably still ping the device, but with Static DHCP, why would you even bother setting up a static IP? Just allocate a known IP address for the RTP in Static DHCP and be done with it, and let the WRT54G handle it.

I would turn remote management on, if I were you. That will allow you to get to the Vonage adapter from your regular LAN. I have it set that way, but your call, of course. No one outside your LAN can get to it, unless you do something stupid like forward port 8080 on your WRT54G.

>>>>I think to manage the rtp31p2 remotely you have to add :8080 at the end of the ip address ?

>>>Should I set it for dHCP on the wan port right and then leave the lan port blank since i wont be using it as a switch?

Huh? That question throws me a bit. Here's what you want:

Then plug any other computers you want into ports 1,2,3 of the WRT54G, and/or wireless.

Ah, I think I understand the question now. Anyway.. YES, you don't ever want to plug anything into the LAN ports on the RTP. You CAN, of course, if you want. But I'd go through the RTP and turn off as many features as you can (firewall, DHCP, etc etc) to free up memory and resources for Vonage, then use it strictly for a Vonage device.

>>>I think I didnt know how to setup the routers wan port for dhcp... (or is this just automatic on the wan port side?)

OK, now confused again.

Your ISP will (presumably) serve up DHCP to your WRT54G. Your WRT54G will, in turn, serve up local DHCP addresses to your computers AND the RTP.

So you want to set the WRT54G to be a DHCP Client ("Automatic Configuration - DHCP" under "Internet Connection Type") and a DHCP Server ("Enable" under "DHCP Server"). The RTP needs to have DHCP Client enabled, so it gets an address from the WRT54G.

However, the RTP does not need its own DHCP server enabled unless you plan on plugging devices into it. Doesn't hurt to leave it running, but it'll never have anything to do.

>>>if i have 512 for upload speed , your saying I should allocate 460 for QOS? does it always tie up the 460 or just when it needs it?

Frankly, you'll have to ask an expert on that one, but I think what happens is that QoS needs to know how much bandwidth you have so it knows when to throttle back other requests. "Auto" would presumably keep shoving packets until they start slowing down, then stop shoving packets in priority order. "Manual" would presumably say that, if high-priority packets are starting to arrive and the overall bandwidth is nearing the specified number, then QoS kicks in and doesn't try to use the line beyond that amount, shoving high-priority packets first.

Phew! Hope all that mess helped out a bit. Fingers... tired...
