Sorry for the mis-understanding, but the issue is likely to still be the way the router is set up rather than the Vonage device. You still need to do some diagnostics to determine what is wrong. If you tell us the sequence of the device connection we may be able to help. It should be something like:
Cable Modem -> Router -> all other wired devices plugged into router including Vonage adapter. If he put the Vonage adapter between the modem and router that MAY be the issue.
One last piece of advice from someone who has likely to have spent a lot more time on this earth dealing with people than you have. Your problem with your parents is your approach. If you talk to them about things and ask for help with the issues rather than tell them they did something wrong, you'll get a better response and more respect. Something like "hey dad, can you help me figure out how to make our network work better with Vonage?" will get a better response than "hey dad, that Vonage crap you put in screwed up our internet connection. Cancel it."
You get back what you put out in the world. Give respect to receive it. Less PS3 and more interpersonal communication and you'll go far in life.
