Vonage So my latest test has been to plug the router into the kitchen jack the one that has

So my latest test has been to plug the router into the kitchen jack the one that has two green two red two black and two yellow wires in and then plug a phone into a jack in the living room which is also wired the same as the kitchen.

the phone rings and will answer but there is dreadful background noise.

When I pick up the phone the line is dead no beeps when keys pressed nothing.

Didn't try the test with a volt meter as don't have one, so need to borrow one/buy one before I can run that test.

Any other ideas?
