Seems everyone got focused on what flavor wifi you had and forgot to help you set up your system. Your topology should look something like this.

Internet

V-Portal Vonage Adapter
__ Telephone
Wireless Router
|__Wired and Wireless Computers

You say your home phone doesn't work. Do you have a POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) line still? or are you talking about your Vonage line?

If you still have a POTS line, it should still work. You should have a DSL filter coming out of the wall jack, with one cord going to your DSL Modem and the other cord going to a telephone, if you want a phone on that jack. All other jacks in the house should have a DSL filter between the jack and the phone.

If this is the situation, then you can plug a phone into the back of the V-Portal, and after about 30 minutes it should have downloaded firmware updates and you should have a dial tone. If you need multiple phones on the Vonage line, many people use cordless phones with multiple handsets.

If you do not still have a POTS line, then you can disconnect the voice wires at the box on the outside of your home. Run a phone cord from the back of the V-Portal to any phone jack in your house, and all of your phones now should be able to use the Vonage line. There are instructions on home wiring on the Vonage web site, and there is a forum section here dedicated to that. If you are fairly handy you may be able to do that yourself. If not, offer to pay an "off duty" telephone technician a few bucks to do it for you. DO NOT connect the v-portal to a wall jack without this step, even if the phone company has disconnected your old phone. It may damage the adapter.

I hope this helps.
