Reversing the Vonage polarity got the alarm dialing out? Hah! That's a triumph. We have come a long way.
Now the problem is, some alarm systems simply never do work with Vonage, and I don't know why. But we can keep trying. What I'd suggest now is that you get a simple Y-splitter- one of those gadgets that turns 1 phone jack into 2. (But don't get an L1/L2 splitter, the one that separates the lines in one jack into separate jacks. You can identify that one because the ports are labelled L1 and L2.) Plug the splitter into your Vonage adapter and use one of the ports to plug the adapter into the Vonage wall jack. Plug a phone into the other port. Now when you set off the alarm, all the regular phones in the house should go dead, but the one that's plugged into the splitter should still be alive. Listen to it and you should hear the tones of the alarm trying to connect with the alarm company.
Tell me if that works. By the way, the alarm is set for tone dialling isn't it? Pulse dialling certainly won't work.
