Vonage Rachel, Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that your netgear wireless

Rachel,

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that your netgear wireless router does not have QoS abilities which means that your telephone traffic will have equal priority as say your computer's traffic via a website.

Normally, this will result in choppy audio and poor phone connections.

My solution to this type of problem is to setup your network as follows:

Modem -> rt31p2 -> netgear -> computers connected wirelessly.

Now, in order for this to work such that your computers are networked among themselves requires some configuration. I have set up my system in this order and my wireless computer can acces my wired desktop and even share a printer. So here goes.

First, leave your rt31p2 connected the original way, cable from modem goes to the "internet" port.

Now, we need to do some configuration on your netgear, so connect your computer to port 1 of your netgear but make sure the netgear is not connected to anything else. Now power up the netgear and go to your computer, that is connected to it, open up Internet Explorer and type in the address of the web configuration. This should be found in your setup guide and it should also give you a username and password. Enter those things.

Then you will want to find where to disable DHCP. Save the disabling of DHCP.

Now, the last step is to change the IP address of your netgear so that it is on the same subnetwork of your rt31p2. Your rt31p2 is on 192.168.15.xxx so you want to change the IP address of your netgear to say 192.168.15.250. Save the changes.

Now you are ready to connect your netgear to the network.
Disconnect your computer from the netgear and connect an ethernet cable from port 1 of your rt31p2 to port 1 of your netgear wireless router. I want to emphasize that you will connect to port of your netgear, not to its "internet" port. Nothing should be connected to the "internet" port of your netgear.

If I understand you correctly, you want a computer connected via an ethernet cable, so connect that to either the netgear or the rt31p2. You can also now connect to the netgear wirelessly.

Both computers should have ip address is the subnet 192.168.15.xxx.

By the way, after connecting everything, make sure you turn everything off including modem etc for 5 mins.

Then turn them on in the following order:

modem (wait until all lights are solid)
rt31p2 (wait until phone 1 light is solid)
netgear (wait until it has established internet connectivity)
computers

Now you can establish a home network and have them share printers and folders if you wish.

hope this helps.
