Vonage Question to Kwester- You said you live in Charlotte, NC. I do too. My question is

Question to Kwester- You said you live in Charlotte, NC. I do too. My question is do you use BellSouth DSL, Road Runner or what for your broadband connection? I use Road Runner for Vonage at my office and unfortunately they cap the upload speed at 256 (at my home, the residential Road Runner product is capped at 368). It works fine 95% of the time, but sometimes the upload speed drops to virtually nil, causing disruptions in the call. Fortunately this does not happen often, and other than that, I am generally happy with Vonage and at some point will get my colleagues at the office to use it too. What has been your experience with your broadband provider?

Even though the business unlimited package, at $49.95, sounds expensive, I figure on my phone alone it is saving me about $1,000 or more per year in total between local and long distance.

I tried, by the way, to get DSL with Speakeasy, which offers up to a 768 upload, but they (through Covad) sub the lines from BellSouth. Unfortunately, believe it or not, even though our office is in a major business area only two blocks from Carolinas Medical Center, our location is 17,000 feet from the telephone company's nearest central office, at nearly the limit of DSL (about 18,000 feet), and we cannot get much more than dial up speed, so DSL is unfortunately not an option at this time. Ironically, my house, which is less than one half mile from work and in the same telephone exchange, is served by a DSL remote solution and gets blazingly fast DSL. Despite going all the way to the top of BellSouth, they do not seem to care about doing anything for businesses in my area after I raised the problem. They were very nice in looking into it, but I don't think they have any intent whatsoever of solving the DSL issue by putting in a remote solution in my business heavy area. That's why they will lose telephone lines in the future to Voip and companies like Vonage.
