Vonage Port forwarding in theory should never be needed because of the Vonage SIP through

Port forwarding in theory should never be needed because of the Vonage SIP through NAT solution. Every 20 seconds the Vonage adapter sends a Registration packet to the proxy and the proxy responds with a 200 OK. This 20 second Registration keeps a pinhole open through the NAT table.

This is no different then multiple PC's connected behind a router making requests to the Web on port 80. Each PC / Vonage adapter has a private IP which the router stores and knows where to direct inbound packets to.

Port forwarding is only needed for services that are hosted and sit idle until a connection is made. Examples would be a web server, ssh, telnet, ftp, etc... They do not send packets out to keep NAT table open. They wait for a connection and establish a pinhole once this connection is opened. In order to reach one of these services on a private IP from Internet, the request made to the Public IP of the router needs to be redirected to the host machine on the specific listening port.

So this is why port forwarding would not be needed for Vonage. The only reason which it might be needed is if the router has a NAT timer that closes the pinhole in under 20 seconds which is very very rare. Most implements of NAT are 30 second windows. If the pinhole was to close before the next Registration, Inbound calls would route to Voicemail or call forwarding because the Invite request from the proxy to the Vonage adapter would be blocked on the router's WAN Port. If neither were configured, the call would route to the Vonage Inbound IVR that says "Line Temporarily Unavailable I-1-0-4".

If you are still under the impression that you need port forwarding for whatever reason, PM me the MAC address of the second Vonage adapter and I will change the SIP listening port from 10000 to 10001 so that what you can port forward the SIP port of each Vonage adapter.

Multiple accounts sharing an Internet connection

Here is my situation: I currently have one vonage account with port forwarding
You shouldn't need to forward ports. What type of router do you have?
I forward the ports because the router touches the internet before the vonage
Since the Vonage box needs to be connected to your internet modem, how do propose
Because my current vonage box is not connected to my internet modem but my router,
Ok, sorry about that, I used to have that set up but switched to an all in one Linksys
tfc, your situation is no different than someone who is running a small business
mundy5: I am using the 2 ports with my current setup, a v-portal, one for phone,
what I am suggesting is that your router should know where the signal is suppose
