Vonage Pls excuse the lack of description in the subject line but its tough to be succinct;

Pls excuse the lack of description in the subject line but its tough to be succinct; three problems I think are interrelated and I can't figure out the root cause. First the problems:
1. phone service/cable modem mysteriously stop working dead in tracks, requiring cable modem power reboot (unplug for 30 seconds and replug). this happens every 3 days or so during day but 3-4 times at night when i'm using the PC
2. phone calls (all time) mostly transmit voice fine but go into 10 second feedback glitches where neither person on either end can understand one another (both voices sound like the parents in Charlie Brown cartoons.)
3. Internet surfing occassionally dies, with IE says "document contains no data" to pages that clearly have data.

1. I'm located in NYC, 718 area code.
2. I'm an earthlink subscriber with high speed cable modem service through Time Warner (which means neither company will help me; earthlink told me to call TW; TW said they won't support Vonage and wouldn't give me any advice because i have an unsupported Voip service and router connected to my setup)
3. I checked my upload/download speeds and they seem fine (par for the TW course) at 332 kps and 4.91 MPS respectively.
4. cable modem is RCA DCM 245 (seems old but TW won't give me a new one with my plan.)
5. Vonage adapter is the cisco ata 186 (is this out of date? i called Vonage to try to get a new one and they said many people like this model and its up to date)
6. i have the modem->router (Netgear MR814, wireless b) and the router connecting the ata 186 and the computer. (is my setup backwards? The 186 adapter is not directly connected to the PC. Or is not having wireless g a problem?) the router connects to one laptop by cable, two laptops by wireless (but never three at the same time; rarely two.)
7. here are my test results from testyourvoip.com (this is below average for time warner.)

Myself and my wife (especially) would be very grateful for anyone who could help me troubleshoot...I"m not much of a techie! Thanks in advance.

Call disruptions req.cable modem resets, can''t figure it out

Your packet discards are high, and I'd guess that you have an ISP related issue.
eep- I plugged my connection directly into the computer and the quality went way
I'd say it's definitely an ISP issue, but it could be either Time Warner or Earthlink.
