Please humor me... do not think I am strange (although I am)...
I too need to use a fax constantly throughout the day, and when I switched to Vonage initially it worked fine.

I had some problems with my ATA and Vonage had me trying various things. When I finally got my voice problems sorted out, my fax stopped working. I tried the reverse DSL filter, Vonage changed my packetization to 10, you name it.

To make a long story short, I called HP (fax manufacturer) and explained to the tech what I was doing. He asked "Do you have an open mind?" I replied, "Of course! I'm using Voip and trying to fax..."
His solution: replace the line cord from my fax to my jack or termination with a 2 conductor cord. " ONLY 2 conductor " he insisted, you know only 2 brass thingys on each end. If you use the DSL thing make sure it is a one line DSL filter too.
I totally thought this guy was nuts :? and politely said "Thank you." and hung up the phone.

I opened up my trusty HP manual looking for reference to the line cord. ..and sure enough on page 2 (the one with the pictures.. ) it showed the included "2 conductor phone cord".

Hmm. I thought. I rooted around in my rats nest of cables and found that my 2 cond. fax cord got shuffled to my cordless phone base and vice versa. I switched them back and Viola! Faxing worked.

There is one other requirement prefix all dialing with *99 (on the Moto ATA this jumps to the 90k codec).

People with credit card terminals have also had luck with this.

Along other things - if you have latency introduced by your ISP no amount of tweaking will resolve your issue. In short - for Voip to act like POTS you need a stable ISP and router.

I can't guarantee it, but I can say in the strange situations with analog data communication devices, this (2 conductor) with the reverse DSL filter have fixed about everything. Hope this helps.

And everyone.... don't flame me if you think I'm nuts. It worked for me and others. I think its nuts too, but I am enjoying faxing on Vonage, modem and TTY devices too.

By the way my setup:

Cable modem __> Linksys wrt54g(svesoft)-> Moto ATA (Static IP) __>reverse DSL filter to phone lines in house. All telephony devices have 2 conductor cords (of course  )
