Vonage One question before I give an answer, what do you mean by "have both phones in my

One question before I give an answer, what do you mean by "have both phones in my room?" I assume you have regular phone service at your house and you have that phone in your room now? If you buy your equipment directly from Vonage, you will get the rebate instantly, meaning you don't have to pay anything for the equipment. You mentioned that you already have a wirless router in another room and I assume there is a computer in that room that is hooked up to the internet along with your wireless laptop. So, when you call Vonage you need to order just a phone adapter and not a phone adapter/Router combo unit because you already have a router. The Motorola VT2142 or Dlink VTA would be your best bets. Your initial startup costs will be around $45. The device is free but you have to pay the $30 activation fee and around $15 for shipping. Now on to your location problem. Your options kind of depend on how close your room is to the room that the Router and Vonage device are located. One option is to plug a cordless phone into the adapter in that room and just take the handset with you. I would use a 5.8Ghz model and not 2.4Ghz because you mentioned that you use wireless for your laptop and that would likely cause interference with a 2.4Ghz phone. If the rooms are close you could go buy a phone wire for whatever length you need and run it into your room from the other room. Most often, you can hide the wire by placing it close to the baseboard and perhaps making a small hole in a closet to get from one room to another. Those are the easiest options, there are more but first we would need a lot more detailed information. Also, most other options require that you make changes to the phone wiring in your house and so on. If you do get the service, there are many cool features that can save you and him a lot of money. For example, you get a number in your area of the US but for $5 a month you can add a virtual number for the area of Canada that he lives. So he can call a local number but you will get the call on your regular Vonage line. Also, you can set up call forwarding or Simulring where your cell phone and Vonage phone will ring at the same time whenever you get a call to your Vonage number so he can call and get your cell phone when you are not home. So basically, he calls a Canadian number(free for him), you answer the call at home on your Vonage phone(free for you) or if you are not home and have the calls forwarded to your cell phone it would be just like receiving a call from anyone in the US and just use your minutes. You should go to the Vonage website and look at the features page to read more about all the things you can do with your Vonage phone line. Hope this answered some questions and didn't confuse you more. Reply if you have more questions and if you want more detailed info on how to get the phone in your room, you have to give some more detailed info to us. Happy Calling!!!
