Vonage Okay ... I really like Vonage. That needs to be said up front. I want to see them succeed.



Okay ... I really like Vonage. That needs to be said up front. I want to see them succeed. That's why I'm taking the time to voice my concerns about their voicemail system.

I don't like the phone retrieval voicemail system. It is one of the most clumsy, inelegant, time consuming, confusing voicemail systems I've ever used ... bar none. :o Now mind you ... I like being able to eMail my messages, I like that I can go to the web too. :) But the interface I'm going to use the most is via my home phone. That interface leaves a lot to be desired.

Here's my list ... add to it if you like. It would be good to hear what others think.

Things I'd like to see change:

1. I don't want to enter my PIN number each time I call from my home phone. Most every system I've used does not ask for your PIN calling from your home number, only if I am checking voicemail from another phone. Though some might call this a "security feature" I call it an annoyance. Let me set a preference, PIN entry on or off from my home phone.

2. I don't want to have to press the 1-Key twice to listen to my messages every time I call in. I just want them to play as soon as I call in. Or at least give me the option to set that preference, not force me to press the 1-key twice every time. Let the voice prompt tell me how many messages I have ... then let them rip.

3. Every phone system I've used uses the 7-key to delete a voicemail & the 9-key to save a message, not 2 & 3. I thought that was an industry standard. I guess not. The 1 & 3-keys are use for forward & backward in a message the 7 & 9 to save & delete ... but not with Vonage.

4. Give me the choice of no prompts, short prompts, or verbose prompts in all menus.

5. Oh yeah ... the message for a person leaving voicemail is confusing too. It should say something like ... "When you are finished leaving your message hang up, or press # for more options, not "... when your done press # ..." If the person can hang up & need do nothing more ... tell them just that. Or, again, give me the preference to have NO prompt for callers. Just leave a message ... and hang up. Less time, less confusing. If I want to give callers more options, let that be my option.

Okay .. that's my $0.02 ...

Yes, I can certainly agree with some of your points. The pressing "1" twice
This is the same voicemail system we have at work - and it doesn't bother me.
It seems to me that if the system is aware that it is being called from the home number
