Vonage Okay. As long as you're connected solely by the ethernet adapter and not the USB

Okay. As long as you're connected solely by the ethernet adapter and not the USB cable and not getting that page, then the issue is most likely (95% chance) the computer's configuration rather than the cable modem or router. The Vonage phone service working proves the internet connection works and the router is functioning at some level. As I said earlier, WinME is very unstable. The problem might ultimately be WinME's TCP/IP stacks are corrupted, but we can try a few other things before throwing in the towel...

Since you're currently connected to the 'net, go to Linksys' website and download the latest drivers for your network adapter. Also, locate your WinME CD, as the computer will probably ask for it in the next few steps. Unpack/unzip/extract the driver files to a location where you'll be able to find them.

Once you've done that, (you'll have to excuse me, been years since I've played with Win9x, so I'll try to lead you in the right direction, but it might be called something different.) Try going to your control panels, networking, and REMOVE anything which references the Linksys adapter in there. Also remove TCP/IP. When you click OK, it should want the WinME CD and then it'll want to reboot. Unplug the USB network adapter before it reboots. Also unplug the USB cable that connects the cable modem to the computer.

Also, this would be a good time to power down the cable modem and router and connect the RTP300 router to the cable modem, then power them back up.

So the computer will boot up... connect the USB Linksys adapter after it's done booting. It should go through an Add New Hardware type wizard. If you have the option to "Have Disk", click that and point it to the Linksys driver you just downloaded. It should auto-configure from here, will probably want the WinME disc again, and will probably reboot again. Let it. Also, this is when you want to have all of the RJ45 (cat 5/yellow/blue) cables connected up. It should power up, and in theory, if everything works as it is supposed to, will get an IP from the router and you'll be able to hit as well as other web pages.

If this fails, there's one other trick that can be tried to restore WinME's TCP/IP stack, but I'd have to flip through some old files to find the exact steps. It was something along the lines of Add/Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components, Communications, then remove Dial-up Networking, reboot, reinstall Dial-Up Networking. I realize that cable modems aren't "dial-up" per-say, but that's where Microsoft put the TCP/IP stuff back then.

FWIW, I'll be out for a few hrs, so I probably won't get to reply until sometime tonight. I'm sure the other forum regulars will join in. Let us know how it goes.
