Ok, So right now I have the linksys 4 computer 2 phone port Vonage router. Up until this morning it was working fine. That router, is sitting under my Linksys WAP, which works great for WAP stuff.
This morning the Vonage router crapped out on a phone call. I thought it was funny internet or something. I recently swapped from Verizon DSL to Earthlink(timewarner) cable, and am not sure I like the cable service, but that's some other can of worms.
When my phone service failed to come back all day, I decided to call tech support. Rest router, reset cable, hard reset router(hold button 1 minute; unplug 1 minute) etc etc.
Router still fails to sync phones.
The tech said to but a new router since mine was out of warranty. I have trouble believing this is a viable solution. Do the routers really crap out like this?
So my thought is to get a new account(current account is fiancees) and get a new number(i want a new number for work) and then cancel the old account and port the old number over.
However ,new router is what 80$ for the 4port 2 phone router, and its a different brand so it won't sit on top well. Which sucks, but whatever.
My options with a new router, are get from Best buy, ciruit city etc etc, and pay for the device and then pay for activation i believe.
Or i could get the device from Vonage and pay for activation.
Or i could buy a new device and use my old account. which is still costing me more than i want to spend on this Voip.
How much is activation? If i get a new account from Vonage, I can possible get the router for free, but the web site doesn't tell me about the activation fee's or any of that. I went through the panels until it asked for a credit card, and still, no "this is what we'll charge you"
So, if you know how to fix my router, please let me know, otherwise let me know the cheapest way to get my a single phone line back. The guy offered me the second phone line on this account for free for 2 months when i asked him about that, but I can still potentially do that anyways with a new account(free line for 2 months or something crazy with a new account)
Edit: Internet works great through the router still, i'm typing this from laptop going to wap and wap is going through Vonage router.
