Oh I agree, the problem with the connection is bad engineering in Taiwan, no doubts.

But regardless of the problem, the first step was Vonage customer support. The normal problems with their customer support are compounded by the fact my network is in the basement, and if Vonage isn't working I have to use my cell phone, which doesn't work in the basement. Which means I have to duplicate everything I've already done with running up and down the stairs added. Their technical acumen is low, I'm not a xenophobe, but the accent is difficult in a technical situation, and I spent a lot of time. with conversations like this.

"I'm going to put you on hold while I research this."
"Yes I have to put you on hold while I research this."
"Yes Fine"
"Okay but i have to put you on hold for a moment."
<for the love of....> "Please go ahead!"

I have had very little resolution with them in the past, all with high frustration levels. I've a decent level of technical ability, and when they refuse to do anything until I un-plug it and plug it back in again (with the requisite going downstairs and back up again) because they can't deviate from the script.

I'll say the second tier guy was better, he at least didn't have me do things that accomplish nothing (Attach the Voip adapter to my laptop ehternet port and then try to go to to buy time, and or annoy me to the point of hanging up.

I do like the service announcements on the web page, nd the web page itself is more useful than most companies (though I wish I could activate forwarding with an e-mail, SMS, or a phone call), but once you have a problem, and have to pick up the phone (a different phone obviously) the satisfaction quotient is low.

This forum is helpful in that I've found a number for U.S. service, which will hopeful be better (I can't see their technical abilities being less) in the future.

Sorry for the rant.

</rant over>

Thank you again for the help. Definitely a neat trick to have in the back of my mind.
