Of course there are a couple of questions I have always had about coupons and rebates:

(1) Why have rebates? Just cut the price up front. Or, if it is based on service then just give me a credit after the amount of time. The company already knows I have the equipment because it is registered. But, the simplist solution is cut the price up front.

(2) Why have coupons? Just cut the price up front. It causes more work for the consumer, for the stores, and for the company.

The reason: it is a gamble you will misread or not bother with them. For example, the grocery store prints a big ad with coupons. You plan on taking advantage so you go to the store. You forgot the coupons. But you there already so somebody gets a bigger profit depending on if it is a store coupon or a manufacturer coupon. So, in that respect, I agree that all coupons and rebates are a trap, or in the eye of the companies, a gamble. They roll the dice that you will be attracted by it but not use it.

I think Vonage would be better off to just go back to the days of no coupon or rebate. If they want to give the adapters away, then give them away.

I should give one clarification on my rebate. I did get my rebate check. It was from Best Buy so it may not be the same rebate check you guys were offered. And there is that fact I mentioned earlier that they registered my MAC address as I was checking out.

As I had suggested elsewhere, the whole thing would be simpler if they just let the Circuit City and Best Buy stores implement your service at the store. Then you know the unit works and is registered. At that point they could take care of any give aways, refunds, and rebates. Then you wouldn't have people so confused or upset.

I personally would still have bought my PAP2 without a rebate, but since they offered it they should pay it. In that respect maybe Vonage should rethink marketing rather than take the traditional rebate / coupon path. Their other marketing was unique and it worked. Otherwise they wouldn't have the biggest install base.

I also don't see a trap here. It appears that you failed to read ALL of the rebate
Exactly...I just can't see how this is Vonage's fault as opposed to buyers fault
