Vonage OK, once again, I have to assume that the alarm is trying to go out, but can't do it.



OK, once again, I have to assume that the alarm is trying to go out, but can't do it. Nevertheless, it would be nice if you could check this somehow. For now, we'll continue with that assumption.

Going back to basics, you're supposed to have Vonage hooked to the alarm phone input, and the home wiring hooked to the alarm phone output. During an alarm, the output is cut loose and the alarm is still hooked to Vonage. We know that the house wiring is hooked to the alarm output, because things still work properly with the landline. (But check this. When you disconnect Vonage and re-connect the landline, you should have landline service on your phones normally, but you should lose it when the alarm is going out. Does that check out OK?)

Now, we have a few possibilities left:

1. Vonage isn't hooked to the alarm at all. We can eliminate this one because Vonage is working with the house phones and we know that they are hooked to the output of the alarm.

2. Vonage is hooked to the input of the alarm as it should be. We can eliminate this because you still get Vonage dial tone on the house phones when the alarm tries to go out.

3. Vonage is hooked to the output of the alarm. When the alarm tries to go out, it cuts the output loose, so it's actually killing its own phone service. This is the only possibility left. Somehow you've connected Vonage to the wrong side of the alarm Tell me more about how you've hooked Vonage to the system. (Your alarm tech should have been able to see this.)
