Vonage OK, let's review the wiring as it was with the land line. What's supposed to happen

OK, let's review the wiring as it was with the land line. What's supposed to happen is your land line comes into the box outside the house. From there it runs to the alarm box and _not_ to the house jacks for the rest of your phones. That's so the alarm can seize the telephone line during an emergency and dial out without interference.

When there is no emergency, the alarm crosses the line over to another pair of wires. This normally goes back to the outside box where it is tied to the wiring for the rest of the house. (However, it can actually be tied to the house wiring at some other point than the outside box. We'll need to understand where that tie-in is or was in your wiring.) The reason this won't work with Vonage, is that the Vonage service is usually tied to the wiring via a house jack, as if the Vonage unit were another phone (which it isn't). When the alarm tries to dial out, it disconnects itself from the rest of the house wiring. That used to give it exclusive use of the land line. Now doing that actually disconnects it from the Vonage service.

The normal solution to this would be to wire the Vonage adapter output to the alarm side of wiring, just as the land line was. However, you can't do this by just plugging the adapter into a house jack. Why don't you pick up at that point. Tell us if your original wiring was as I've indicated, and tell us how the Next Alarm adapter now fits into the picture.
