OK, I've been whining about my 54G, and unfortunately 1.00.55, while somewhat helpful, has not solved the problems. I figured I'd do this as a separate thread so I wouldn't skunk up the threads on the 300, which seems far more common than my device.

I want to hear from other WRTP54G owners, assuming there are a few of you out there, and see if my problems are unique.

If they are, I'll shut up and go buy another router to put in front of this Linksys to do my "real" work, set up the appropriate passthroughs for the Linksys to talk to Vonage, relegate the Linksys to Vonage duty only, and call it a love story.

Up until recently, I have been THRILLED with the Vonage service AND my router. Now I'm THRILLED with the Vonage service, but the router - not as much.

I have the following configuration:

Cable (SusCom Maine) -> Linksys BEFCMU10 Modem -> Vonage WRTP54G Router/Adapter -> my home network (2 PC's and a ReplayTV).

I have plenty of bandwidth for the Vonage line (3MB/256K tested at ~2.5MB, ~190K pretty consistently) as long as I don't do a lot of BitTorrent or other traffic. I have no complaints about my Vonage line per se. It's been good and pretty solid, as long as I don't steal its bandwidth. Voice quality is excellent - as good as a POTS line.

I have a few caller ID issues, but since I use it for work (telecommuting) and the only people who call me are from work, and my company blocks outgoing caller ID, I really don't care about caller ID all that much. ;)

Issues I have had:

Before 1.00.52:
- DNS connections are flaky. This is resolved pretty easily, though, by retrieving and hard coding my ISP's DNS information into the router, or doing the same to each client. Bit of a pain, but I can live with it.

- router needed to be reset intermittently every few days or every week or so, for no reason I could ever figure out. Didn't seem to matter how much I did with it, just lost connection every few days. I can live with that.

1.00.52:

- Router slows WAAAY down, and eventually stops responding, when using a "heavy traffic" app like BitTorrent (I tried to download OpenOffice from BitTorrent, and had to restart my router something like 6 times that day just to keep it running).

- Even without BitTorrent running, router needed at least daily resets.

1.00.55:

- A little better. The connection has been stable for almost 4 hours now with no resets. This far exceeds my expectations from 1.00.52.

- Still unable to use BitTorrent. When I start it up, the router goes for about an hour or so, then overloads and has to be restarted.

So, a call to other users of this router. Have you been happy with it? Can you use it reliably? Can it handle decent volumes of traffic? Is there any advice you can offer on proper care and feeding of this beast?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer any clues on this, or at least let me know if I'm the only one having problems with this unit.
