OK, I took a picture of my outside NIU, and I'll post it here. Hopefully it makes more sense to you than it does to me. I am a complete wiring newbie.

You can see the male ends I disconnected from female ports (circled in red with the blue paths showing the female counterpart), and I did nothing with the red or green wires. I suspect this is the root of my problem.

So again, I'm at a loss as to where to go from here. Hopefully this image provides some insight.

I don't know if each of the male/female jack sets are supposed to correspond to an individual jack inside the house. I'm guessing not, because I have more than three jacks in my home.

We just purchased this house, and I know that the prior owners had at least two POTS lines running through the home - one for voice, one fax.

Well, OK , I took the similar COLORED wires (you'll note the colors are reversed in the top block compared to the other two), disconnected them from their posts (so red1, red2, and red3 were disconnected), twisted them all together, and taped them. Then I did the same for green.

I went back inside, fed a phone line from my Vonage router to a local phone jack and...nothing. Dead silence.

I have no idea what I did wrong, except maybe assume the colors were the logical grouping. Perhaps I should have just gone down the left and right sides, respectively, as you mentioned, but then the colors would NOT have been matched.

Any suggestions?

I don't mean to vent, but I'm quickly coming to the conclusion that Vonage isn't worth the trouble. It's been two months and I can't get my inside wiring issues worked out, despite the excellent help I've received on these forums.
