Vonage OK, I seem to have resolved my issue. Here is what I proceeded to do. Caller ID was



OK, I seem to have resolved my issue. Here is what I proceeded to do. Caller ID was working if the phone was connected directly to WRTP54G but would not work when connected to home-wiring. However, when I had RT31P2 it would work with the home wiring as well. So,my hopothesis was that the WRTP54G hardware is not able to cope with my home-wiring impedance. To reduce the impedance, first I disconnected each phone and put one phone at a time to see if the caller id would work. This test did not resolve anything. Then I went outside my house and opened the NID. I disconnected the CO connection (Measured the volts, and there was Zero Volt and Zero Amps) but still kept them off from adding to the home wiring impedance (this nullified the copper impedance from home to CO or their tap). Voila, Caller ID started to work again!

Conclusion: The basic hardware (perhaps chipset) is different between RT31P2 and WRTP54G and they see/process different impedance loads on the phone jacks differently. It is a safe and best practice to remove your CO connection from NID altogether to enjoy Vonage with currently shipped wireless device.

Next step is now to use WRTP54G solely as a phone adapter (it is a lousy wireless accesspoint...kills my throughput by atleast 30%) and use another router in the front to handle all my routing needs.

Hope this tid-bit helps others as well.
