Nothing really new to add to this, just this: LISTEN TO TROWSKI AND JEEPGUY!!!!!!!

Take it from someone who spent months, and countless hours of frustration, trying to make a Vonage-supplied router do what a Linksys router SHOULD do, and failed...

Do NOT, under any circumstances, spend money to "upgrade" to a Vonage supplied router. If you have one, and it's working for you, fine. But don't intentionally go out and do this. Vonage routers are great for Vonage, but they are only adequate routers. If your demands are low, then they can work out, but why bother? Stick with a Vonage device for Vonage and a router for routing.

For the router, my recommendation is the same as Trowski and Jeepguy ... get yourself a WRT54G V4 or earlier, or a WRT54GL, or a WRT54GS. These devices can be had in the $50-75 range, and are Linux based routers that, with free aftermarket firmware, can be turned into serious routers that can compete with lower-end professional gear.

To tell if the WRT54G you are buying is good, just AVOID serial numbers starting in "CDFB". "CDFB" indicates the new VXWORKS-based WRT54G, which means no aftermarket firmware.

Sporadic reports are still showing that pre-V5 units can still, for now, be found at package stores like Walmart for about $50, though your local stock may vary. Worst case, you can pick up a WRT54GL (which is a WRT54G V4 in a different box), or a WRT54GS (which is ALSO a WRT54G in a different box whose Linksys-supplied firmware gives it SpeedBooster). Those come at a premium, but you can also buy them mail order, since ALL WRT54GS and WRT54GL units are Linux based.

Then go to www.linksysinfo.org and start reading up on all the wonderful things your new shiny blue box can do, and be dazzled by the choices you have in turning this humble blue box into a routing powerhouse.

If you REALLY want a Vonage supplied router, I'd be happy to trade my WRTP54G for your RT, as long as you can get Vonage to do the phone number swap and you give me a few bucks for the trade. $25'd be reasonable, I think. I'd be just as happy having three "blue box" Linksys units rather than two of them (my cable modem and my WRT54G) and a silver one (the Vonage WRTP54G). ;)

But I'd heavily recommend that you just go out and buy the WRT54G, or any other router you choose, and have your own router that YOU control, rather than leaving your Internet routing up to the whims of the latest Vonage firmware update (ouch!).

Keep your RTP300, and go to walmart and buy a v4 or less WRT54g for $50. Run the RTP300
Trowski is dead-on correct. A not-so-obvious (at least it wasn't to me) advantage
