Not trying to create any ill feelings here, but I wonder seriously, why someone remains on a line waiting for the other party to be finished with another call.

Personally, I hate call waiting. If someone flashes out of a conversation with me, I will give them a few moments, but after 20-30 seconds, I'm hanging up.

So while I can understand why a continuing "reminder" that there is another party online would be annoying, I just don't see why the OP would end one of the conversations.
