Vonage My setup: Router: Linksys RT31P2 with 2 Phone Jacks Modem: Motorola SB4200 Service:

My setup: Router: Linksys RT31P2 with 2 Phone Jacks Modem: Motorola SB4200 Service: 6Mbps Down / 380Kbps Up Think twice before going after the 1.30.01 Firmware if you didn't get it automatically pushed down from Vonage. Basically, here's the issue at hand. I VPN to work by day, P2P by night. I needed to get the Voice QoS capabilities of that router configured properly in order to avoid the choppy conversations. After quite a bit of research, I've come to determine that the Quality of Service feature is poorly implemented no matter which way you configure it. Trust me, I've tried it all. As an absolute last resort, I contacted tech support. My experience with vonage techs hasn't been too bad, but I wonder what the hell is wrong with the firmware developers! The tech rep mentioned that the 1.30.01 firmware did include some quality of service enhancements, but they screwed up caller ID in the process. She e-mailed me the .bin file, but I really don't want to trade Caller ID for a better quality phone call. Linksys doesn't provide the factory firmware either. Anyway, here's what I'm doing. I read good things about the D-Link DI-102 (Internet/VoIP Accelerator). It's ready to go right out of the box, and it sits between your cable modem and router, and handles packet priority QoS instead of the Linksys. I really used to like Linksys in the past, but the fact that they left hardware efficiency coding up to third party companies bothers me. I recommend researching and buying devices separately to meet your specific networking requirements.
