Vonage My current configuration, which has given me good voice quality and minimized

My current configuration, which has given me good voice quality and minimized dropped calls, especially overseas is the following:

modem -> VT2442 - 3 separate upstairs computer
connection to downstream linksys wrt54g

(then) linksys wrt54g -> laptop in upstairs room
connection to (a 2nd) downstream linksys router (downstairs)

2nd linksys router (downstair) -> two computers
LAN laser printer

I have been running this configuration without the VT2442 (at the first level) for about 5 years and no problems.

I received the VT2442 less than a month ago and simply attemped to connect directly to a LAN port on my first stage linksys (at that time) but had problems initializing the phone function and suffered from a lot of dropped calls and poor quality phone service.

I decided to place the VT2442 as the first level router in the configuration and voila, excellent phone quality and good internet service with one hitch. Each time a boot any computer and try to connect to the internet, using Mozilla or IE , I get the looking up google (my homepage) message basically telling me I either cannot find my DNS servers for address translation, or the router has not initialized my IP address.
At this point, I go to my network connections, disable and enable the LAN connection and all is well until I reboot again.

This happens on all the computers connected directly to the VT2442 LAN ports as well as the downstream computers connected to the downstream linksys routers. But remember, downstream connection is initiated from one of the LAN ports of the VT2442.

The disable/enable requirement is annoying and my wife and kids are not that computer literate so getting them through the routine is a bit more problematic. I have enough inhouse routers to obviate the use of the routing function of VT2442, but,unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be a viable solution because as stated before, connecting the VT2442 into a Linksys router port resulted in constant dropped calls and forced the VT2442 to redundantly reinitialize the phone service to the point that I got phone service less the 20% of the time.
Does anyone have a suggestion or a workaround so that I don't to go through the disable/enable scenario each time that I boot.

In doing an ipconfig, my computers only see the VT2442 as the DNS server, does this mean the router is providing my address translation by requesting it from the ISP and then passing it to me? I could certainly assign the "dynamic" IP address assigned to each computer as a static IP address (all the computers are connected via CAT5) and then assign the ISP's DNS servers statically. Would that work?

The only problem there would be if the ISP ever changed the DNS servers.
I await any suggestions.
