My WRTP54G is 3 years old. I purchased it to subcribe to Vonage. Three days ago, the router started rebooting every minute or so. I called support and they told me that the router was out of warranty, go buy a new one and they would give me a $40 credit towards the purchase.

Three months ago, we changed ISP's to Verizon FiOS. A new wireless router came with the bundle. I place the new router side by side with the Linksys router and tested both router's WIFI using different channels. Both worked fine. The Actiontec MI-424-WR FiOS WIFI router has a very powerful transmitter that beats the Linksys router.

I tested the power pack for the WRTP54G and it read 12.1 volts DC: good. I opened the WRTP54G and examined for burned out components and found none.

I noticed that the Linksys router would reboot within seconds of the WIFI light coming on. I also noticed that there is a separate WIFI daughter board inserted in a slot on the main board. Could the WIFI board be defective?

I removed the WIFI board and repowered the router. The router did not reboot and appeared to be stable. I then placed it near the FiOS router and attached the power cord, phone line and "WAN cable" to the FiOS router. The Linksys router did not complain. I took the phone off hook and had dial tone. I dialed my home phone from a cell phone and it worked!

I believe that the Actiontec WIFI transmitter's intense signal burned out the weaker Linksys WIFI circuitry because I placed them side by side with both antennas only inches away from each other. Lesson learned!

I am leaving the WIFI card out of the WRTP54G as I don't need it, but I do need the router as a basic Vonage phone adapter and will only use it as such from now on.

It's not worth laying out any money for a replacement and repairs are impossible. If it dies completely, I'll go with a plain old no-frills Voip phone adapter.

Don't be afraid to open your WRTP54G router up to remove the WIFI card to see if this fixes your "constantly rebooting" problem. You're only dealing with 12 volts DC at a very low amperage.
