Vonage MrKenmore, you are right on target. It is even more serious to openly make that

MrKenmore, you are right on target. It is even more serious to openly make that claim when SBC just bought AT&T. Doesn't that give them Callvantage? So the CEO either opened his mouth without thinking or he is bashing some of his own company. He will also regret the other firestorm that will come, the government. As much as many of us want to avoid big government they have intervened a lot to open competition. Why would they stop now? SBC already carries competitor calls. He is openly inviting scrutiny of the FCC and even the FTC. I don't know if it is worth the gamble because everyone gets hit. Is he competing with Sprint for the title of the company who adds new taxation to new technology. I hope his board has a big roll of tape to seal his mouth because this guy is a loose cannon. The point he is probably trying to make is VoIP, including Vonage, is able to cut costs because of technological differences. Now Vonage and others have tied a new technology to an old system which will ease transisition. Don't forget these telcos have been soaking up extra dollars that were supposed to pay for the infrastructure that has been in place for some time. Rather than drop our costs they had intended to keep milking the cash cow. But, competition among each other began to cut into the cow starting with things like MCI's Neighborhood program. Remember that? Unfortunately I think the cow is targeted for road kill. Even if VoIP evolves into something else, which could even be a hybrid with cell technology I believe in my signature. The world is changing. The days of thousands of pounds of copper on poles is coming to an end. If you took SBC's position we would still have gas lighting or oil lamps (just an analogy). Bottom line, he is about to get a lot of new friends in the sandbox. I would suggest he learns to get along. Will Vonage survive? When the original MCI and Sprint sprung up they had to "pipe" their information through AT&T. Then they transitioned. Sprint still shouts their pin dropping for their fiber system. Vonage will survive in some form or fashion. My bet is that it will be independent a little longer because the growth rate is still high. It is the investers who must predict the peak for when it is best to get off the ride. I'm not sure we're near Vonage's peak.

SBC CEO is against VoIP using his lines

This story is making all the news today, where the greedy SBC CEO is not happy about
We should charge them for all the ugly telephone poles across the country. Lines

Edward Whitacre has been whining about this for a long time. He whins about it everywhere.

Wow. This is basically MCI's claim that AT&T won't give them equal access
Well the FCC approved his merger with AT&T today, so who knows- maybe he "ain't
