Short story:
Set my alarm panel and DirectTV Tivo to dial ,*99,*70, before all calls and it worked like a charm for both. I set a pause at the beginning and end 'cause it just seem to work more consistent that way

, = pause
*99 = sets interface to data mode (or at least that is what some posts said)
*70 = disables call waiting

Long story:
I found this solution a couple months back, and then a buddy was recently was having the same issues so I figured I'd post this so other may benefit as well.

I had been trying to get my alarm panel to dial in correctly for awhile. Finally after getting a phone call at 3am from my security company telling me they received a signal from Zone 20 (??? I only have 11 zones :? ) and me walking through the house with shotgun in hand I decided to finally try to figure this out. It seemed my panel made a test call and something got garbled in the transmission. I also kept having problems with the panel calling in and it taking a couple minutes to actually communicate successfully, if even at all. Aparently the panel will retry a call a handful of times before it times out

My Tivo on the other hand kept getting those annoying reminders to call in. Need I say more

After looking around on multiple forums I found this very simple answer. My Tivo is a HR10-250 and my alarm panel is a Simon 3.

The Tivo is simple enough, just add those numbers to the Call Waiting prefix section. I have yet to see another annoying reminder screen it has been about 11 months

The Simon 3 is a different story, you need the installer code to be able to get into it. If you don't have that code then you will need to call up your alarm company and have some one come out. Hopefully they won't charge you. In the installer section there is an option for disabling call waiting, just put that same sequence in. My alarm now consistantly communicates in @ 10sec.
