Vonage Mine may be a bit more complicated, but here's my 110 punchdown block I installed

Mine may be a bit more complicated, but here's my 110 punchdown block I installed and punched down myself - I got it from Home Depot.

Basically all the cables from the rooms/outside go in first, according to color. As I put them in, I wrote their position on that middle label - it's a paper wedged into a plastic filler for the center of the block. The caps have conductors on both sides - one side goes into the mount to connect the wires that I said go in first and that allows wires for connecting everything to be used on top. The punchdown caps are put on and using a 110 punchdown tool, you "push" the caps down onto the wires. I have real crossconnect wire, but you can take a piece of Cat5, strip the outside insulation, separate each pair and use that for crossconnect. My "office" has the Vonage adapter, so I punch it down to my kitchen, where my cordless base is. After I took this, I have another wireless base in the bedroom that's also now punched inline with the kitchen.

As you see, one crossconnect wire connects to mulitple connection - this is the beauty of a 110 block. Also, to make another connection "live" - i just move the crossconnect wire for that Vonage line and punch it down in the room I want live.

Note the tips are color coded - blue is the center (main line) and in my study, I wired the green for a second line. I have a Local bell line for my Tivo in the family room, the gameroom (where I may need one too) and the GREEN pair for the study (2nd line in that room).

You need a punchdown tool for a 110 block - this has a "blade" that has a "U" cutout. The sides of the U push the wires down into the caps - there two pieces of metal in each slot that slices through the insulation, but not the copper wiring. This makes a connection. Without the punchtool - and by using a screwdriver, you can damage the clips. The U cutout in the 110 punch allows for the conductors in the clip.

Here's a side view of one of the clips.
