Melisam78 I don't know what your number has to do with you not being able to receive local calls but then a Vonage rep told you it could be with the phone number that you have? Why would the rep say that? Did you tried porting out this number and ported it back to Vonage? Is yes, do not have your number changed yet unless you are sure. Try this for experiment. Call Vonage ask them to add you a Virtual number and get a virtual number for your area code (give your town & state). You could actually add a virtual number without calling Vonage but by simply logging in your web account. The reason you are to call is so you won't be charge with any fees. There would be a one time activation fee but if you call them you could ask them to waive it for you on the first time and tell them you have been having problems. I'm sure they will understand & will overlook this for first timers. If they have added it already, ask the rep what is your virtual number then ask someone-a friend perhaps to call you on that virtual number (this friend of yours should be on your local area code). See if you will be able to receive the calls in your main line (all calls from virtual number would be forwarded to your main line). If this works, keep the virtual number if it doesn't get rid of it.
As for removing virtual number, you don't need to call Vonage to have it removed should it not work, just go to your web account. On features, click on Manage Virtual Number. Click "view" then either "edit" or "remove" the said number.
remove the virtual if it doesnt work, if it does keep it it would only be $4.99/month anyway.
