Vonage It looks like my firmware updated last night as well. I can now only put 4 digits

It looks like my firmware updated last night as well. I can now only put 4 digits in there as well.

If you are still losing the IP address, I'd recommend trying a static IP. This is done in the settings for your network adapter through Windows, in this case, the Netgear GA311. Are you using Windows XP or an older version of Windows? If you are using Windows XP, then follow these instructions.
First, go to the command prompt. It's under Start/All Programs/Accessories.
At the command prompt, type: ipconfig /all (and press enter)
Write down the IP address (ex., Subnet Mask (ex., and default gateway (ex. Yours may be the same as I gave given as examples. If not, they should be very similar.

Log into your RTP300. Click on Status and write down at least 2 DNS servers. Do not pay any attention to the Internet IP and default gateway here as these are the Comcast ones. You can use the Comcast DNS servers for your PC but not the IP address or default gateway as they are being used by the router.

In Windows XP, click on Start and right-click on "My Network Places" and go to Properties. Find a Local Area Connection that says connected and it should also say Netgear GA311 or something similar. Right-click on it and go to Properties. Click on "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and go to properties. Choose "Use the following IP address" and put in what you wrote down earlier. Do the same for "Use the following DNS server addresses" click on OK. If the systems asks to restart, go ahead and do so. If it does not ask, give it about 10 seconds and make sure you still have Internet connectiviity.

If you have Internet connectivity, then you're all set with the static IP. If you do not, you will need to check your settings again.

I'd recommend leaving the DHCP server turned on on the router until you are confident that your static IP is set. You can always change your PC to obtain the IP automatically again if you need to.

You can permanently leave the DHCP server on the RTP300 and just change the Start IP address to one number after what you set for your PC. This way, if you get an additional computer, you can still use DHCP for that.

The advantage to DHCP is so that you don't have to set IP addresses for your computers. This is especially useful in large companies with a lot of PCs because it requires a minimal amount of configuration. It is also useful for home users because it is easier for them to set up as well.

The advantage to a static IP is that it will never change. In your scenario, there is really no disadvantage. In general, disadvantages include a smaller number of available IPs which in your case, it doesn't matter because you're probably never going to have 100+ computers connected.

If you're using an older version of Windows, the instructions will be slightly different. Windows 2000 is pretty similar. Windows 98 or ME is somewhat different. Let me know and either I or someone else here can help you configure a static IP there.
