Vonage It is the nature of governments to grow into bureaucracies... once-necessary

It is the nature of governments to grow into bureaucracies... once-necessary functionaries that balloon into huge, revenue sucking parasites bleeding the society they supposedly represent of their hard-earned money.

Take the United Kingdom for instance- a country with an average tax rate approaching 40 percent. Everything and everyone seems to be taxed. The UK also has various "non-tax" programs for generating revenue. Uncontrolled, rampant socialism keeps rising into the "free market" countries of the world.

Take the Illinois Toll System, an organization with which Mundy5 is probably familiar. The Illinois Toll System was founded in the 1950's to help pay for Eisenhower's construction of the Interstate Highway system in Illinois. The Tolls were meant to be in place until the 1970s at which point they would be taken down, having fulfilled their purpose of paying for road construction. Instead, the Illinois Toll Commission expanded, built more roads, and turned into a self-serving bureaucracy answering only to itself. Toll rates continue to rise, the Toll Commission continues to spend more money on more elaborate toll collecting schemes, and we the people continue to bleed out for services we did not request from our "elected" government. It's been 35 years since the tolls were supposed to go away in Illinois and yet they are still here and still growing.

I make my massive digressions on taxes and road tolls to make one point: the government will always turn a greedy eye on any new technology or industry with the goal of bolstering the coffers of our elected officials. Why allow self-regulation when you can bureaucratically regulate and thereby put revenue into your representative of the people's pocket?

So long as we continue to allow officials motivated by the basic human drive of greed to regulate industry, you will see new taxes on every new service that appears in our society.

The E911 tax is one more way for them to do that.

Thus endeth my sermon. Sorry for the rant but communication technology, government taxation, and the suffering of the people are three things that when put together draw forth my ire.
