This is my current setup (it's more than an average home network)...
Internet comes in, and goes through the router. The router is attached to a Cisco Catalyst 2912-XL Switch, and on that switch, is two seperate Linksys Vonage boxes...
Will this work? Early this morning, my phone couldn't receieve a call, and yielded a busy signal, but my fathers was working fine.. Right now it's all working fine, but was it my setup, or just a Vonage glitch?
Also, I don't know if it's because of this setup, but my Vonage box has the most weird "ringing" sounds after I dialed a number. For example, sometimes (most actually), I hear "two" ringing sounds overlapping each other, or sometimes it's a scratchty modem sound (but when the other party answers, all is fine)... Yet, my fathers box runs completely fine, with no problems, again.
my router isn't a consumer router, it's a Cisco also (don't know the model at the moment), and only has two ports, WAN and LAN, and it "needs" the Cisco switch to allow more than one connection..
i tried plugging my phone adapter into the modem directly, and the double-ringing sound still does happen, and my phone is infact ringing (sometimes still however)..
i know the basics to the Cisco IOS when it comes to the switch and the router, but do not know commands for QoS on my Cisco router.. (non of the equipment in my house is a SOHO box, it's all data-center grade equipment, as I run a domain and everything)..
perhaps the domain controller on the network could be hogging some of the bandwidth? the network runs completely at full duplex 100Mbps, and if im not mistaken, my Cisco switch has about 24 megabytes of buffer memory..
