I read somewhere that there was a setting in the driver (device manager) that may allow us to overcome this issue (forget what the exact setting was) but the only configurable toggle i have pertinent to this situation is for my modem to wait for dial tone. I've tried both (on my laptop) connected to an active rtp300 port to no avail.

This is really a bummer, because for some, a physical fax box is such an unneeded device. Well, I guess in our present scenario it IS needed (thus far) so I digress.
