If you want action, file a complaint with the FCC, get them involved and things will happen.
I started my transfer from US Cellular in January 2004. After 10 months, it finally got transferred. Vonage gave me a credit for that time, as I was paying 2 phone bills. The problem, I was the first transfer between US Cellular and Vonage (who uses Focal Communications). Focal has to pay something like $15,000 to be able to initiate transfers. If you have 1 guy wanting a transfer, do the math, it takes a lot of months to recover that, so they SIT on it and wait for more transfers.
You really do not have a voice with all this, you are one small person, file a complaint with the FCC and get someone big on your side. It worked for me. For a lot more info, see this thread:
