If I may digress off-topic for a moment...

Every State served by Comcast has their share of haters. In the AT&T BI days, I hated them. In Georgia, Comcast bought up, cleaned up and jazzed up the service to amazing levels. They have call centers in this country, in our city, with live people taking calls. In my area, if you call in a trouble on HSI, it notifies you if there is already trouble reported in your area before you hold on for tech support. (By the way, their voice response unit receives my real number from Vonage too.) I like them a lot.

I honestly believe Comcast is a great provider to use with Vonage or any Voip service with because they are optimizing their own network (regardless of VLANs and such) to carry their own Voip service.

I had horror stories with BellSouth DSL when the DSLAM was in my own back yard and they couldn't keep my connection running. Plus, BellSouth personnel were about as helpful as listening to the hold music for Vonage. I have never understood HOW Bellsouth gets tops customer service awards. It sure isn't for Bellsouth.Net internet service.

As to the rural aspects, I have a a cabin in the mountains of Western North Carolina served by a tiny cable company which has only one T1 (1.544 Mbs) connecting it to the internet. My Vonage works flawlessly up there as well. In fact, for whatever reason, my Vonage works better up there than Voicepulse or Broadvoice. The cable service up there is rock solid as well.

To return to topic....

I suspect that ToddlerTN has had the "perfect storm" of things going wrong with his Vonage equipment and their deployment of his service. I doubt his Comcast cable service is part of it. He has been far more patient than I would have been. After a day or so, I'd have sent it packing and made a note to come back later when Voip is fully cooked. Fortunately for me, the gods of Voip made mine work the first time, the second time when I added another adapter and the third time two weeks ago when I got them to send me two new RT31P2 units to replace my old Cisco ATA's. I'm still pleased with Vonage but not unsympathetic to the others who have trouble.

As I said before, the best thing for us who have service that works is to try to help those who don't since Vonage customer service is virtually unavailable. That's the whole idea of a forum and I hope we can all continue the spirit of it.

There is certainly no need to get testy or bait each other.
