Vonage I would like to set up my adaptor, the Motorola VT1000v, in bridging mode, however,
I would like to set up my adaptor, the Motorola VT1000v, in bridging mode, however, it does not seem like it is working. I hope somebody who has successfully done this can help me set up or help me determine if my device indeed working properly. Here is what I have been trying to do:
My ISP is AT&T DSL (powered by Covad), the connection type is PPPoE. AT&T supports up to four IPs, and I have tested AT&T with two IPs before with no problem (by using a hub in front of two computers). My set up is in the following order: a DSL modem, Motorola VT1000v, and D-Link DI-714P+ router. Now, from other threads and Motorola's website, it says if I disable DHCP/NAT, it will put the VT1000v in bridging mode, and whatever is plugged into the second port will behave as if the motorola is not even there (meaning it will obtain a second IP). So now the moto has DHCP/NAT disabled and getting an IP as usual, however, the DI-714 is not being able to obtain an IP (using PPPoE or anything else for that matter).
I tried to test to see if this is the ISP's problem by configuring the motorola to obtain an IP dynamically (so it won't get an IP), then at least the router should be able to pick up an IP. This didn't work either, the router still wont' connect to the Internet. I have tried using a computer instead of the router in both cases, and again nothing worked.
in the html, it says my device is a vt1000v, but the bottom of the device has a lable saying it's a vt1005.
what is the requirement to put the device in bridging mode? Do I need to have cable (in another thread, the person is using bridging mode with cable). Thanks in advance for your help.
