I would imagine that most apartment complexes would allow me to install a basic Verizon POTS line. If not, I won't rent from them. :-)
Vonage seemed like a good idea, but considering that I'd probably have difficulty keeping my old phone number anyway, and that I only use my landline for local calls (my cell has free long distance), I'm probably just better off keeping basic POTS service for now.
I'll definetly consider Vonage for the future, though, if I want a landline with more features or find myself needing to make a lot of calls before 8pm (when my cell phone is free). One possibility would be install a POTS line with the lowest allowed level of service (almost no outgoing local calls, even) for the DSL for a few dollars a month and then stick a Vonage behind it. I'll know in a few months.
